  • 9:30-2:30, including committee work and a light working lunch
  • Members usually pay for their lunch and SCCAO assumes the cost of coffee, tea and other refreshments.
  • Breakout rooms will be available for committee work following the main meeting.

Goals for the Day:   To create as assessment tool that can be used by science educators to review various resources.    To use this tool and create a list of ten favourite SCCAO recommended resources.

Link to SCCAO Vision:  Our vision is to build strong collaborative networks of science and science-technology leaders throughout Ontario.  This day will serve to bring together our group, with a common end point in mind.

9:30- 10:00 Coffee and networking

10:00  Welcome and introductions – Curriculum Committee Chairs

    1. Formation of smaller working groups of 3-4
    • initial sharing of past assessment tools, consideration of criteria to use, categorize criteria, value of category (levels?  points? etc.), creation of first draft
    1. Switch to different grouping – looking for common ground and new understanding
    2. Final sharing of results

12:00-1:00 Lunch

1:00 – 2:00 Testing of assessment tool with sample resources, selecting SCCAO’s ten best

2:00-3:00 Topics for future curriculum committee meeting; past suggestions include

  1. adding more items to web site (meeting to review submissions, events and competitions listing, ecoSchools, symposia and conference listings)
  2. creation of list of necessary science-technology kits/equipment (elementary) to promote hands-on inquiry (elementary)
  3. integrating science-technology into literacy and numeracy (elementary)
  4. Literacies and/or DI (secondary)
  5. information sharing relating to Specialist High Skills Major, new environmental courses (secondary)
  6. environmental education (to align new policy framework)
  7. assessment and evaluation :  Growing Success, rich performance tasks that build from big ideas, other
  8. safety – guidelines, policies, training in place in different boards
  9. technology use in science (probes, digital microscopes, suggestions to OSAPAC etc.)
